Trump Freezes WHO Funding and Promises an Investigation
The WHO and its director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus are officially in for it now. The organization and its leader are being accused of grossly mishandling the coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent spread throughout the world, as well as helping the communist nation of China cover up first the virus’ existence and then its severity in their country.
And for that, the world is calling for an investigation and justice.
Some of the first public rumblings that Tedros and his organization should be punished came from Arizona Senator Martha McSally. She demanded that the director-general resign immediately. And when he did not, McSally, with the help of quite a few other Republican lawmakers began work on a bill to make it happen one way or another.
Republican Representatives in the House, led by Guy Reschenthaler, introduced a bill on Tuesday that would withhold all funding to the WHO from the US until Dr. Tedros resigns.
Reschenthaler tweeted, “Today, I introduced legislation calling on Congress to withhold federal funds from the @WHO until @DrTedros resigns. America is the WHO’s largest contributor. It’s not right that Americans’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars are used to propagate the CCP’s lies.”
The legislation, backed by at least 20 other Republican House co-sponsors, also notes that “an international commission to investigate the World Health Commission” should be made.
And Tuesday evening, President Donald Trump seemed to approve of and support the legislation, as he announced to the press that the US would, in fact, be putting a hold on WHO funding.
He said, “The WHO, that’s the World Health Organization, receives vast amounts of money from the United States, and we pay for a majority, the biggest portion of their money, and they actually criticized and disagreed with my travel ban at the time I did it and they were wrong. They’ve been wrong about a lot of things. They had a lot of information early, and they didn’t want to…they seem to be very China-centric so we’re going to look into it.”
He added, “We’re going to put a hold on money sent to the WHO. We’re going to put a very powerful hold on it and we’re going to see.”
Trump, like much of the world, has it under good authority that the WHO, on behalf of China, kept the virus a secret for as long as possible. And then when news of it was finally made public, they and the Chinese government lied about what it was, how it was spreading, and the threat it could make on the rest of the world.
The WHO announced on January 14 that “Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan.” However, by then, the disease had already spread rapidly through the Hubei province and even into surrounding nations.
And Taiwan had already contacted the WHO with evidence that it was, in fact, transmissible human to human on December 29, 2019. But because Taiwan is not a member of the WHO, as per the request of its long-standing rival China, Tedros and the rest of the WHO buried this information, choosing to publish China’s story instead.
And when it became clear that this virus was only becoming more widespread and turning into a pandemic, Tedros had an opportunity to declare it a national emergency that would have hurried the decisions to close national borders around the world.
But he didn’t because China said it would be bad for business and their image. Eventually, a full ten days and thousands of infections later, Tedros finally did make the declaration.
Time and time again, Tedros and his staff praised the Chinese for their efforts in the outbreak, all the while covering up what was really happening. They even helped China silence early whistleblowers and doctors who tried to warn the world of the looming threat.
So I’d say this investigation into Tedros, who was formerly a leading member of a violent communist and American labeled terrorist group in Ethiopia, and the WHO under his leadership is warranted and well deserved, as is the withholding of funds.
After all, this is supposed to be a group that is hell-bent on avoiding disaster and chaos worldwide, one whose sole mission is the keep the world safe and healthy. And yet, they just proved to be one of its most dangerous adversaries.
