Trump Destroys Democrats’ “Affordability” Con Job

President Donald Trump sat down with his cabinet and addressed the progress his administration has made on inflation and combatting the affordability crisis. But to hear one outlet tell it the president thinks affordability is a scam and that he downplays consumer concerns about it.
One media outlet claimed Trump downplayed consumers’ pricing concerns during a White House Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Here is what Trump actually said during his opening remarks. In them Trump made it clear that it is the way Democrats use the word affordability that renders it meaningless. He did not say this about the issue of affordability in and of itself but Democrats’ use of the word to achieve their own ends.
“I mean, these are the facts we have to get out. You know, there’s this fake narrative that the Democrats talk about: affordability. They just say the word, it doesn’t mean anything to anybody, they just say it: “Affordability.””
Trump continued explaining the situation he inherited.
“I inherited the worst inflation in history. There was no affordability, no one could afford anything. The prices were massively high. [To Brooke Rollins] Do you remember, we took over eggs? You did a great job on that, Madame Secretary. Agriculture. Brooke. Eggs were four-five times higher than they had ever been. They said, “Don’t order eggs for Easter at the White House.” And we ended up doing it and we got the egg prices way down, lower than what they were before.”
Trump then hammered home his point.
“The word “affordability” is a con job by the Democrats.”
He’s not wrong. In the TN-07 special election this Tuesday Democrat candidate Aftyn Behn took up affordability as her buzz word when she needed to deflect from exposure of her past comments. She had expressed hatred of her hometown of Nashville, distaste for children and family and her pro-Defund the Police rhetoric. Behn has since used affordability as her campaign platform and knee-jerk response to any criticism.
The issue is the word and how manipulable it is. Affordability is different dependent upon the person and their circumstances. In a majority of America gas prices are now below 3 dollars. But that doesn’t matter to someone who doesn’t drive a car.
So Trump is right. Democrats use the word to enact their con jobs on the American people in order to look as though they are taking action. What they are really doing is deflecting from the Trump policies that are making a difference in the short and long term.
Vice President JD Vance spoke truth to power on this one. While Democrats talk a good game then produce nothing but wind and bad ideas the administration is working hard to create policies and programs that allow Americans to retain more of their income.
“If you look at every affordability crisis that is confronting the American people today, it is traceable directly to a problem caused by Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats. Why did homes get so unaffordable? Because we had 20 million illegal aliens in this country taking homes that ought by right go to American citizens. Why did tax bills get so unaffordable? Because Democrats were raising taxes while Congressional Republicans, under the president’s leadership, were now cutting taxes. Why did food get so expensive? Because we printed trillions of dollars and threw it into green scams that made our agricultural economy suffer while Americans were paying higher prices for food. On every single one of those issues I think we’ve made incredible progress. But it would be preposterous to fix every problem caused over the last four years in just 10 months. I think we’ve done incredibly good. But what I see over the next year; and you heard Brooke talk about “joy” and “gratitude.””
Vance continued his assessment.
“What I really think this season represents for me, and I think for the entire administration, is that we have now done incredible work to fix what Joe Biden broke. And I think the next year in American growth and American prosperity could be the best year that we’ve had in the United States of America. It’s gonna happen because we’re all working hard, it’s gonna happen because we have the greatest country in the world. But I think for Congressional Democrats in particular, if they want to talk about affordability, they ought to look in the mirror.”
The media’s attempt to spin Trump’s comments as downplaying consumer concerns perfectly illustrates his point. They took his criticism of Democrat messaging tactics and pretended he was dismissing real economic struggles.
Trump’s example about egg prices demonstrates concrete action versus empty rhetoric. His administration actually solved the problem while Democrats just talked about it.
Vance’s systematic breakdown of each affordability crisis traced directly back to Biden policies destroys the Democrat narrative. Housing unaffordable because of illegal immigration. Taxes up because Democrats raised them. Food expensive because of wasteful green spending.
