The Schumer Shutdown is barreling toward its second week.

Consequences of Democrats’ refusal to fund the federal government are being felt everywhere. Flights are being delayed across the country. An air traffic controller shortage is causing major problems.

In Burbank, California, on Monday night, the airport went without controllers for nearly six hours. Traffic was handled by a Terminal Radar Approach Control facility in San Diego. That’s 130 miles away.

Great job, Democrats.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer refuses to budge. He appears unaware that he’s holding a losing hand. Instead of urging his colleagues to pass the clean Continuing Resolution, Democrats are holding out.

They want unpopular things like restoring funding to the leftist network PBS. They want to pay for healthcare for illegal immigrants.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children could run out of money soon. This program is known as WIC. It serves over six million low-income mothers and young children.

The program could run out of money in just a few weeks.

Oh, those caring progressives.

But Donald Trump actually might have a solution. He plans to use tariff revenues.

According to reports, the president will redirect funds from tariff revenue. This will keep the WIC program running.

A Trump administration official described the action as a short-term measure. The official did not specify how much money was being transferred. But the Office of Management and Budget had developed a creative solution. This solution will maintain the program.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the move was meant to counter Democrats’ cruelty.

“Thankfully, President Trump and the White House have identified a creative solution to transfer resources from Section 232 tariff revenue to this critical program.”

“The Trump White House will not allow impoverished mothers and their babies to go hungry because of the Democrats’ political games.”

If this plan goes forward, it will once again leave Democrats with egg on their faces. They will be on the record as refusing to fund a program for poor families.

But it will be the tariffs they shrieked about so much that could save the program.

That would be rich, wouldn’t it?

The irony is delicious. Democrats spent months attacking Trump’s tariffs. They said tariffs would hurt American families. They said tariffs were bad economic policy.

Now those same tariffs will feed poor mothers and children. Democrats refused to fund WIC through normal channels. Trump found another way using the tariffs Democrats hate.

This exposes the emptiness of Democratic priorities. They claim to care about poor families. They claim to support women and children. But they’re willing to let WIC run out of money.

Why? Because they want to fund PBS instead. Because they want healthcare for illegal immigrants. Because they want to stop Trump from implementing his agenda.

Democrats are playing political games with people’s lives. Trump is finding solutions despite their obstruction.

It’s hard not to see this as the demise of Chuck Schumer’s Senate career. The New York Democrat has served in the Senate for decades. Unfortunately for him, he might be remembered most for this fiasco.

The shutdown didn’t need to happen. It has accomplished nothing. History may be very unkind to his obstruction.

Republicans passed a clean Continuing Resolution. It would fund the government without controversial add-ons. Democrats keep voting it down.

They want $1.5 trillion in additional spending. They want to extend Covid-era Obamacare subsidies. They want to restore foreign aid that Trump cut.

Republicans won’t give in to these demands. They already passed a clean bill. Democrats are the ones shutting down the government.

But Trump won’t let Americans suffer because of Democratic games. He’s using executive authority to protect vulnerable families. He’s redirecting tariff revenue to keep WIC funded.

This shows the difference between Trump and Schumer. Trump finds solutions. Schumer creates problems.

Trump cares about American families. Schumer cares about illegal immigrants and PBS.

Trump uses creative thinking to help people. Schumer uses obstruction to pursue a political agenda.

The president’s tariff strategy is brilliant on multiple levels. It solves an immediate problem by funding WIC. It embarrasses Democrats who opposed the tariffs. It shows Trump’s commitment to American families.

Democrats claimed Trump’s tariffs would hurt poor people. Now those tariffs are feeding poor mothers and babies. Democrats have no response to this.

Schumer’s shutdown strategy is backfiring spectacularly. He thought he could force Republicans to cave. Instead, Trump is outmaneuvering him at every turn.

The president keeps finding ways to help Americans despite Democratic obstruction. This is what real leadership looks like.
