Trump Mocks Super Bowl Halftime Show

President Donald Trump reacted to the NFL’s Super Bowl halftime performer selection on Monday.
The league chose Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny for the 2026 Super Bowl. Trump dismissed the choice and questioned why the singer was selected.
Trump spoke with Newsmax’s Greg Kelly about the decision.
“I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it — it’s, like, crazy. They blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Bad Bunny’s real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. The NFL announced in late September that he would headline Super Bowl LX. The game takes place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8.
The artist performs entirely in Spanish. He has taken an outspoken stance against U.S. immigration enforcement. Bad Bunny has also appeared in dresses, high heels, and pink mini skirts.
He previously stated he would not perform in the United States again. He cited concerns that ICE could target his fans at shows.
The announcement immediately sparked backlash. Many viewers accused the NFL of being out of touch with its audience.
Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick criticized the decision. She said only English-language songs should be featured at one of America’s most-watched events.
Conservative commentators including Benny Johnson also condemned the selection. They called the NFL “self-destructing year after year” over the decision.
The controversy grew after reports that ICE agents would be present at the event. Homeland Security adviser Corey Lewandowski confirmed the agency would conduct enforcement operations around the Super Bowl.
“There is nowhere that you can provide safe haven to people in this country illegally.”
Bad Bunny had earlier warned of ICE raids near his concerts. He has referred to the agency as motherf***ers in social media videos. These videos denounced arrests in Puerto Rico.
The artist has been among the world’s most-streamed musicians in recent years. Court filings from 2022 published by Puerto Rican media revealed interesting financial connections.
Bad Bunny was linked to a $2 million investment that helped launch his record label. The company is called Rimas Entertainment.
The documents alleged that Rafael Jiménez Dan provided the funding in 2014. Jiménez Dan is a former Venezuelan vice minister under Hugo Chávez. He reportedly held a 51 percent ownership stake in the company through his Florida-based businesses.
Bad Bunny hosted Saturday Night Live to open its 51st season. He joked about his upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance during his monologue.
He commented he thought everybody is happy about it, even Fox News. He then spoke briefly in Spanish before addressing the audience.
“If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn!”
The Puerto Rican artist is set to make history. He will perform entirely in Spanish at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Some left-leaning commentators have praised Bad Bunny as a cultural figure. Vanity Fair’s Molly Jong-Fast said he represents the values of the Democratic Party.
The artist endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election. Harris lost to Donald Trump in November 2024.
Trump’s comments reflect widespread conservative criticism of the selection. Many NFL fans feel alienated by the league’s choice. They believe the Super Bowl should celebrate American culture.
The halftime show is one of the most-watched entertainment events in America. Millions of viewers tune in every year. Many conservatives feel the NFL is pushing a political agenda.
Bad Bunny’s anti-ICE statements have angered many Americans. His vulgar attacks on immigration enforcement officers cross a line. Now ICE agents will be working security at the very event where he performs.
The irony is not lost on conservatives. The artist who called ICE agents motherf***ers will perform while they protect the venue. This creates an uncomfortable situation for everyone involved.
Trump’s reaction shows he understands how out of touch this decision appears. The NFL blamed a promoter for the selection. But the league ultimately approved the choice.
Many Americans agree with Trump’s assessment. They find the selection absolutely ridiculous. The Super Bowl should celebrate American values and culture.
Instead, the NFL chose a controversial foreign artist who performs entirely in Spanish. He has financial ties to a Venezuelan official from a socialist regime. He attacks American law enforcement and wears dresses.
This is not what most NFL fans want to see.
