Trump Will Bring Back Old Holiday—Sending Leftists Into Meltdown

Leftists are sure to be triggered by the latest announcement from President Donald Trump: he’s bringing back a cherished American holiday that progressive activists have worked hard to erase.

On Sunday, Trump posted on Truth Social that he is officially reinstating Columbus Day, a holiday he says Democrats tried to destroy in favor of “woke” alternatives like “Indigenous Peoples Day.”

“I am bringing Columbus Day back from the ashes,” Trump declared. “The Democrats did everything possible to destroy Christopher Columbus, his reputation, and all of the Italians that love him so much.”

Trump reminded Americans that left-wing rioters tore down statues of Columbus during waves of anti-American protests, replacing them with either nothing or politically correct monuments aligned with far-left ideology.

“They tore down his statues, and put up nothing but ‘WOKE,’ or even worse, nothing at all!” he said.

The assault on Columbus’s legacy has been a years-long campaign. Even outside the U.S., progressive leaders like Canada’s Justin Trudeau have used official platforms to promote Indigenous Peoples Day while ignoring major national tragedies happening under their watch.

Back in the 2024 campaign, Trump also pledged to restore federal recognition to the Lumbee Tribe in North Carolina, showing his commitment to respecting all Americans while refusing to erase the historical foundations of the country.

As RedState’s Brandon Morse wrote at the time, the push to erase Columbus Day is part of a broader attack on Western civilization itself. Morse pointed out that the left wants to teach a version of history that paints the founding of America as an act of pure greed and brutality — rather than a complex, world-changing event that eventually gave rise to the greatest nation on earth.

“The reason I make this point is that the left seems to want to use the idea that Western civilization began with a bunch of white people showing up and murdering innocent people because they were greedy like that,” Morse wrote. “They want to rewrite history and make celebrating the 1492 landing of Christopher Columbus taboo.”

Trump’s announcement wasn’t just words — he followed it up by issuing a formal statement from the White House confirming the reinstatement of Columbus Day under the “same rules, dates, and locations” it had for decades before the left’s attempted erasure.

“Well, you’ll be happy to know, Christopher is going to make a major comeback,” Trump said. “I am hereby reinstating Columbus Day under the same rules, dates, and locations, as it has had for all of the many decades before!”

The White House even shared a meme featuring Trump standing alongside a statue of Columbus, poking fun at the inevitable liberal outrage to come.

This move is yet another example of how President Trump is unapologetically fighting back against the left’s efforts to rewrite American history — and the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
