Trump Blows Open RFK Files In Unprecedented Declassification

President Donald Trump has ordered the release of over 10,000 pages of previously classified documents tied to the assassination of former Senator Robert F. Kennedy, marking one of the boldest transparency moves in modern history.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard made the announcement Friday, confirming that the documents are now live on the National Archives website. But that’s not all—an additional 50,000 pages were uncovered in FBI and CIA storage warehouses and will soon follow.
“This is about restoring trust in American government,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of the slain senator. “I commend President Trump for his courage and his commitment to transparency.”
RFK, a Democratic presidential frontrunner, was assassinated in 1968 just after winning the California primary. The shooter, Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian refugee, was arrested on the scene—but questions and doubts have lingered for decades.
Trump’s move comes on the heels of his release of the JFK assassination files, where nearly 80,000 pages were declassified in March. According to Gabbard, the Martin Luther King Jr. files are next. “We’ll have those ready to release in the next few days,” she told the president during a cabinet meeting.
Gabbard noted the monumental effort behind the release, stating that over 100 people have been working around the clock to scan the RFK and MLK records—many of which had never been seen or digitized before. “These have been sitting in boxes in storage for decades,” she said.
The declassifications fulfill Trump’s January executive order, which directed Gabbard and Attorney General Tim Griffin to develop a plan to release three of America’s most closely guarded government archives: JFK, RFK, and MLK.
The implications of these releases go far beyond history books. For years, Americans have been told to accept vague government narratives while crucial details remained sealed. Now, under Trump’s direction, the curtain is being pulled back—and legacy institutions are on notice.
The Epstein files, which Trump also ordered released, remain sealed as of Friday morning. Pressure is building for the DOJ to comply, especially as trust in the federal government continues to erode.
This latest action from Trump’s team reinforces a central message of his administration: the American people deserve the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be for the political establishment. And with RFK Jr. himself standing beside the president to support the move, that message carries even greater weight.
Transparency isn’t just a promise—it’s happening. And for the first time in generations, the truth behind one of America’s darkest political tragedies is no longer locked away.
